‘East Indians in Canada’ Part 2: Did Nagar Kirtan processions consolidate political will of “East Indians”?

The Sikh Parades, proved to be an effective tool for the overseas Sikh community to introduce itself as a peaceful and hard-working group that had no qualms about making their present countries their homes.

Even after "Giani" Naranjan Singh Grewall debuted in electoral politics, sustaining the mission he initiated was not easy. Early migrants from India were not welcome in Canada. They suffered numerous hardships, and they were denied even the right to a decent living. They had no voting rights.

At some places, signboards reading "Dogs and Indians are not welcome" greeted them.
