Peel Region Police arrests main provocateur behind Brampton temple violence
The police said that it had arrested Ranendra Lal Banerjee, a 57-year-old man from Toronto and charged him with Public incitement of hatred.

The Peel Regional Police has arrested a Toronto man who was seen using a loudspeaker to incite violence and calling fellow protestors to storm Sikh temples following demonstrations and incidents of violence that shook Brampton.
The police said that it had arrested Ranendra Lal Banerjee, a 57-year-old man from Toronto and charged him with Public incitement of hatred contrary to section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. He was later released with conditions. He will now appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton later.
The police also disclosed that arrest warrants have also been issued for 24-year-old Armaan Gahlot of Kitchener, and 22-year-old Arpit for uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, conspiracy to commit assault with a weapon and conspiracy to commit mischief.
The police investigators are making attempts to locate the persons against whom arrest warrants have been issued. “They are encouraged to seek legal counsel and turn themselves in,” the police said.
“Peel Regional Police is committed to respecting an individual’s right to protest, as per the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Any acts of violence, threats of violence or vandalism will not be tolerated. We appreciate the cooperation of those who remained peaceful during these events,” it said in a statement.
Peel Regional Police has since formed a Strategic Investigative Team dedicated to investigating all incidents of criminality during the November 3 and 4 incidents.
Meanwhile, the Consulate-General of India in Toronto has cancelled some of the pensioners' camps scheduled for later this month in apprehension of threat to the members of its staff conducting the camps.
The police have urged the public to share any videos or other information they may have to facilitate further investigations. The Hindu Sabha has also suspended its Pujari for inciting violence.
