The government of Kerala is about to introduce CSpace, the nation's first government-owned Over-the-Top (OTT) platform, in an effort to change the Indian digital entertainment market.
CSpace, which is slated to launch on March 7, is expected to transform the way people watch content, representing a major turning point in the state's and the nation’s progress toward digital innovation. Its app can be downloaded from the app store after its launch.
Under the direction of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) and the Department of Cultural Affairs, the Kerala government will oversee CSpace.
“CSpace is a response to the growing imbalances and multifarious challenges in the OTT sector in terms of content selection and propagation,” award-winning actor and KSFDC chairman, Shaji N Karun told reporters in a pre-release press conference.
A carefully chosen panel, including 60 eminent figures from the state, such as Benyamin, Santhosh Sivan, OV Usha, Shyamaprasad, Jeo Baby, and Sunny Joseph, CSpace will curate important works of art, culture, and entertainment for viewing on the platform
The platform will operate on a pay-per-view system and open revenue-sharing approach designed to give viewers an enjoyable cinematic experience while simultaneously helping the film industry. Users will be able to purchase shorter material for a lower fee and a full-length feature film for almost US $1 (approximately INR 82) on the platform.
The introduction of CSpace coincides with the fast expansion and change of the over-the-top (OTT) market in India, as more and more consumers are turning to digital platforms for their entertainment demands.
