Penn Masala, the world's first South Asian A cappella group, and 17-year-old Indian-American girl Vibha Janakiraman performed during the reception for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House.
The group brought in Indian flavor to the event by presenting their rendition of the popular Bollywood song 'Chhaiya Chhaiya' from the 1998 movie 'Dil Se'. A video of the performance in, which included around 19 men singing in black suits, went viral on social media.
Janakiraman, a student of the Julliard School and a 2023 U.S Presidential Scholar in the arts, performed Kreisler’s Recitativo and Scherzo at the ceremony.
