Following a successful international festival run, the 2024 coming-of-age film ‘Superboys of Malegaon’ will release globally on Prime Video on April 24.
Directed by Reema Kagti, the film is inspired by the life of Nasir Shaikh, a wedding videographer and amateur filmmaker from the town of Malegaon in Maharashtra, India. It traces the journey of Shaikh and his friends as they attempt to create films within their limited means.

Driven by a love for cinema, Shaikh assembles a group of friends to make a local film for and by the people of Malegaon. Set against a backdrop of economic hardship and limited resources, the film explores how filmmaking becomes both a creative outlet and a means of community building.
Since its world premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it featured in the Gala Presentations section, the film has received critical acclaim across several prestigious film festivals, such as the 68th BFI London Film Festival, the 4th Red Sea International Film Festival, and the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Critics have praised Superboys of Malegaon for its portrayal of grassroots creativity and community-driven filmmaking.
During its theatrical release, the film received an 88 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an audience score of 92 percent. Its recognition among international audiences has been viewed as a significant moment for independent Indian cinema focused on small-town narratives.
Produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby, the film stars Adarsh Gourav, Shashank Arora, Vineet Kumar Singh, Anuj Singh Duhan, and Muskkaan Jaferi. Executive producers include Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti.
