Tasveer, a non-profit organization promoting South Asian films, is hosting its first-ever South Asian Film Summit in the Greater Seattle Area, Washington, on October 11 and 12, 2023. The historic event will create a concentrated setting where aspiring filmmakers and film industry professionals can create original networking possibilities.
It will be a singular gathering of diasporic film professionals from throughout the world, including directors, producers, distributors, and industry executives.
"We are thrilled to present the first-ever Tasveer South Asian Film Summit to shine a spotlight on the immense talent, creativity, and cultural diversity within the South Asian Diaspora film industry. We believe that through these cinematic journeys, we can bridge gaps, foster understanding, and empower voices that have long been underrepresented," said Rita Meher, Executive Director of Tasveer.
Tasveer will fight the gaps in Asian representation, which according to the Hollywood Diversity Report of 2022, is under 4%, by providing pathways and opportunities for diasporic filmmakers to bring their tales to a worldwide audience.
The film business will undergo reformation, and gain knowledge, and impetus as a result of the summit's numerous panels, industry mixers, networking opportunities, and multiple pitch sessions.
Advisory Board members Apoorva Bakshi (Awedacious Originals) and Neeraj Churi (Lotus Visual) are excited about the opportunities the market will present to South Asian filmmakers who are eager to convey diaspora stories. Some of the confirmed attendees are Netflix, Marginal Media, and Cinetic Media.
