SONA, the New York restaurant co-founded by actor Priyanka Chopra and Maneesh Goyal in 2021, is set to close its doors on June.30. The restaurant, known for its modern take on Indian cuisine, announced the closure on Instagram, marking the end of its three-year run.

"After more than three remarkable years, SONA will be closing. We are immensely grateful to everyone who walked through our doors. It’s been our greatest honor to serve you," the post read. The final service will be brunch on Sunday, June.30.

Chopra had already stepped away from her partnership with SONA last year. In August 2023, People Magazine confirmed through Chopra's spokesperson that the actor was no longer associated with the restaurant, which she helped launch during the pandemic in March 2021.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions at the time, SONA quickly gained a significant following on social media, with Chopra frequently sharing photos and hosting family gatherings at the restaurant. She also launched the Sona Home collection in 2022, which included dinnerware, table linens, bar decor, and gifts.

In a 2021 social media post, Maneesh Goyal credited Chopra as the “creative force” behind the venture, praising her influence on the restaurant's design, menu, music, and even its name. “First, my kind friend @priyankachopra, who has been the creative force behind SONA. There is no one who better—and more boldly—personifies 'global Indian' than Pri. SONA is so lucky to have her in our corner. From the design, to the menu, to the music, to even the name, Priyanka has her fingerprints all over SONA. Love you dear Pri! Our baby is finally ready for the world to see,” he shared.

The restaurant's inauguration three years ago was marked by an Indian puja ceremony attended by Chopra and her husband, Nick Jonas. SONA became a popular spot frequented by celebrities such as Mindy Kaling, Anupam Kher, Vicky Kaushal, and Katrina Kaif.

Reports suggest Chopra's departure from SONA was due to a rift with co-founder Maneesh Goyal. Page Six reported that tensions escalated during Diwali celebrations when Goyal and another co-founder, Anjula Acharia, hosted separate parties at different venues, causing a divide among their mutual friends, including Chopra.

Despite her exit, Goyal stated that Chopra’s “fingerprints were all over SONA” and acknowledged her continued association with the SONA family, albeit not as a creative partner.
