The Saint Louis school of HindiUSA, a non-profit aimed at promoting Hindi in the United States, recently hosted its 7th Annual Hindi Poetry Competition at the Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Center of Saint Louis.
The event, themed around India’s Republic Day, drew students and families from the community to celebrate India’s rich literary heritage. Many students dressed as Indian freedom fighters, further enhancing the patriotic spirit of the event while holding the Tiranga (Indian flag) during their performances.
The competition included 130 participants across eight levels, who showcased their talent by reciting poems ranging from light-hearted and humorous to patriotic and motivational works by renowned Indian poets like Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Key organizers were Mayank Jain, Anshu Jain, and Meghna Lunkad. “This is the 7th consecutive year HindiUSA Saint Louis has conducted the Hindi Kavita Pratiyogita. The school has grown from just 22 students in 2018 to 230 registered students today, making it the largest nonprofit Hindi school in the entire Midwest and one of the largest Hindi competitions in the USA,” Mayank Jain said.
Special recognition was given to Samir, Dharmesh, and Jayesh for their support during the event. “Language, attire, and food are integral to any culture. HindiUSA’s efforts in preserving Indian culture are truly commendable,” Samir said.
The event concluded with a Taekwondo demonstration by the Missouri Karate Association, accompanied by the patriotic beats of Vande Mataram. Winners will advance to the next level of competition across HindiUSA schools.
