The Consulate General of India in Seattle, in collaboration with Seattle University, kicked off the first-ever India Culture Week (ICW) on Nov. 12. The celebrations, running from Nov. 12 to 14, offer students an immersive experience of the vibrant culture of India.
The week’s events include a photo exhibit highlighting the diversity of Indian states, cultural dance performances, an Indian Food Festival, a session on Yoga, and a workshop on Indian Heritage Arts focused on Madhubani art. Additionally, a session on wellness and holistic well-being, along with the unveiling of an “India Corner” featuring 100 books on Indian arts and culture, is part of the celebrations. These books have been donated by the Indian Consulate to the Seattle University Library.
The opening ceremony was attended by Seattle University President Mr. Eduardo M. Penalver and the Consul General of India in Seattle, with speeches also given by Tim Durkan, a Seattle-based photographer, and journalist Linda Lowry, both of whom recently visited India.
A photo exhibit, “India through Tim’s Eyes,” showcasing iconic images from their visit, was on display. The opening event also featured the dance performance “NATYAM: A Dance Mosaic of Bharat,” which celebrated various regional Indian dance forms, followed by an Indian Food Festival offering regional Indian cuisines.
