Venture capitalist Asha Jadeja launches art prize for Indian women
The inaugural Motwani Jadeja Art Prize is the largest of its kind in South Asia, with the winning amount $63,000.

The Motwani Jadeja Art Prize, established by the Motwani Jadeja Family Foundation led by Indian-American Asha Jadeja, has invited applications for its first-ever edition. The foundation, which aims to empower young entrepreneurs in India and beyond through fellowships, direct investments, and partnerships, will award a prize of $63,000 to support an Indian woman artist.
This amount comprises funds for production, travel expenses, and a direct cash prize.
The inaugural Motwani Jadeja Art Prize, the largest of its kind in South Asia, will annually support one exceptional artist from India through a commissioned art project.
In its first edition, the prize will fund work that examines the artist's role within her community and natural surroundings. Specifically, it will back the creation of an ambitious outdoor installation that reimagines the purpose of art-making, with themes encompassing sustainability, community, and ecology. The final piece will be a weatherproof large-scale installation.
Applications for the Motwani Jadeja Art Prize opened on Mar.11, and will close on June.28. The winner will be announced on July.28.
Following the announcement, there will be an eight-month project development period from July.29, 2024, to Mar.15, 2025. During this time, the selected artist will work on their commissioned art project, culminating in the creation of an outdoor installation.
