NYU Tandon School of Engineering and IIT Kanpur launch joint research projects

The NYU Tandon School of Engineering and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have announced the launch of seven collaborative research projects.
The projects, led by researchers from both institutions, target advancements in critical areas such as cybersecurity, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, and wireless communications. The collaboration is the first significant outcome of the partnership formed in Sept 2023, during U.S. President Joe Biden’s G20 visit to India.
This partnership reflects a broader push by the Association of American Universities for more global academic collaborations, an effort endorsed by both President Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Forging academic ties across borders is crucial for driving scientific breakthroughs,” said Linda Ng Boyle, vice dean for research at NYU Tandon. “Through our collaboration with IIT Kanpur, we strive to deliver technological innovations that serve people around the world, making our planet safer, cleaner, and healthier”, she added.
Bushra Ateeq, dean of international relations at IIT Kanpur, echoed this sentiment. “International academic partnerships improve the diversity of ideas, create synergies, and allow collective efforts to address scientific challenges,” she said. “Our partnership with NYU will foster innovation and yield solutions that improve lives globally.”
The projects, funded primarily by both institutions with additional support from NYU Tandon’s Center for Advanced Technology in Telecommunications and the NYU Center for Cybersecurity, include efforts to enhance cancer treatment, develop agile robots, and improve brain-computer interfaces.
In addition to these research endeavors, the institutions plan to expand doctoral exchange opportunities and share teaching and research strategies.
