An 80-year-old Indian-origin man, Bhim Kohli succumbed to his injuries which he allegedly received after being assaulted by a group of school children while walking his dog in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, on the outskirts of Leicester.

The attack, which occurred on the evening of Sept.1, involved Kohli being "kicked in the neck and back," leading to severe injuries. Kohli was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he tragically passed away the following evening, on Sept.2.

A post-mortem examination has confirmed that he died from a severe neck injury, with further tests pending. The incident has sparked a murder investigation, leading to the arrest of five juveniles—a 14-year-old boy and girl, and two girls and a boy aged 12.

As of now, the 14-year-old boy remains in police custody, while the other four have been released with no further action taken.

Detective Inspector Emma Matts, the senior investigating officer, described the attack as "extremely tragic and upsetting" for both Kohli’s family and the broader community. She stated, "Our investigation into the assault on Mr. Kohli remains ongoing. We continue to keep an open mind around the circumstances surrounding the incident as we work to establish what occurred in the park on Sunday evening."

Local policing teams are providing support and reassurance to the community, while family liaison officers are assisting Kohli’s family during this difficult time. The family has expressed their gratitude for the public's sympathy and has requested privacy as they grieve.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was in the vicinity of Franklin Park or Bramble Way between 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. on the day of the incident.
