Salman Rushdie’s book titled ‘Knife’ based on stabbing incident to be published
Knife will release on April 12, 2024, in hardback, audio, and e-book.

Indian-born British-American novelist Salman Rushdie’s new memoir titled ‘Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder’ is slated for an April 16, 2024 release. The book will offer a gripping account of his survival after he faced a deadly attack that left him blind in one eye.
A man with a knife stormed onto the stage and began stabbing Rushdie, just as he was about to begin speaking at a literary event at a literary conference in the small town of Chautauqua in upstate New York on August 12, 2022.
The attempt came three decades after a fatwa was issued in Rushdie’s name condemning him to death for alleged blasphemy in his novel “The Satanic Verses.” Rushdie revealed he was working on a new book about surviving the attack in June 2023 at the Hay Literary Festival.
Penguin Random House, who will publish the book, said, “KNIFE is a searing book, and a reminder of the power of words to make sense of the unthinkable. We are honoured to publish it, and amazed at Salman’s determination to tell his story, and to return to the work he loves,” says Nihar Malaviya, CEO of Penguin Random House.
Speaking about writing the book, Rushdie said, “This was a necessary book for me to write: a way to take charge of what happened, and to answer violence with art.”
Knife is a “powerful, deeply personal and ultimately uplifting meditation on life, loss, love, the power of art, finding the strength to keep going – and to stand up again,” the publishing house said. It will be available in hardback, e-book, and audio on release date.
