The 2024 Benjamin Joy Awards ceremony was hosted at the US Department of State by Arun Venkataraman, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the US and Foreign Commercial Service, along with Ramin Toloui, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, and Sarah Morgenthau, Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs. 

The winners of this year's Benjamin Joy Awards were the US Embassy in Nassau in The Bahamas and the US Embassy in Nairobi in Kenya, both recognized for their exemplary collaborative efforts in supporting US companies. 

These awards honor exemplary instances of interagency cooperation with US embassies, which contribute to the success of US companies overseas and promote the nation's economic and commercial objectives.

The US Embassy in Nassau was commended for its role in securing an US$85 million contract for a US telecom company to lead the expansion of critical telecommunications infrastructure in The Bahamas. 

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Nairobi demonstrated exceptional leadership by spearheading investment climate reforms with the Kenyan government, leading to a new approach to commercial-economic diplomacy that fostered increased trade and investment, benefiting US companies operating in the Kenyan market.

The finalists for the 2024 Benjamin Joy Awards comprised both US Department of Commerce Foreign Commercial Service Officers and US Department of State Foreign Service Officers stationed in various locations globally. These included posts in Norway, Kenya, Zambia, Kosovo, Vietnam, and The Bahamas.

The Benjamin Joy Awards, named after Benjamin Joy, the first American Consul and Commercial Agent to India appointed by President George Washington in 1792, honor his legacy of pioneering US commercial and economic diplomacy. With over 200 US diplomatic outposts worldwide, these awards recognize the collaborative efforts of the Department of Commerce and the Department of State in strengthening America's economic and commercial relationships globally.
