‘Wales in India’ to celebrate links between the countries
The initiative will foster new trade and investment opportunities and cement collaborations across arenas including culture, sports, academia, and healthcare

The Welsh government launched a year-long initiative to celebrate the link between the Wales and India, especially art and culture, education, health, business, and human rights.
The initiative called ‘Wales in India’ is a 12-will help strengthen ties between the two countries, as well as help foster new trade and investment opportunities, champion cultural and sporting connections, and cement academic and healthcare collaborations, according to the Wales government.
Commenting on the initiative, Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK said, “India has a historic and multidimensional relationship with Wales, with abiding, mutually-beneficial and growing partnerships in business, education, culture, travel and sports. Indeed, Welsh communities of Indian origin have been important contributors to an energised Indian presence in Wales.”

A productive panel discussion on ‘Future of India - Wales cooperation in Economy, Research & Innovation’ was held at the High Commission in London to kick off the event.
The Welsh Minister for Health and Social Services, Eluned Morgan, led a delegation to India to kickstart the program. Her week-long visit to India began on February 28.
“This week I have cemented relationships with our Indian friends who are working to create a fair world, a principle which guides all our government work in Wales,” Morgan said. The minister said she looks forward to collaborating with the Indian LGBTQ+ community as well as having discussions on the Future Generations Act, an act which is unique to Wales and requires public bodies in the country to think about the long-term impact of their decisions.
She will also visit Kerala to figure out how a mutually beneficial health deal can be reached to provide work placement opportunities for nurses in Welsh NHS. “I hope to make an announcement on this in the coming days,” she said.
