Lifelong learner: 85-year-old Ramesh Sharma earns PhD in Mathematics

Born in Narowal, Pakistan, and raised in Ludhiana, India, Sharma earned a mechanical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, in 1967.

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is set to confer a doctorate in mathematics to Ramesh Sharma, 85, during the College of Science graduation ceremony on Dec 13. This remarkable achievement underscores Sharma’s lifelong commitment to education and his desire to inspire future generations.

Born in Narowal, Pakistan, and raised in Ludhiana, India, Sharma earned a mechanical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, in 1967. After working in the civilian Indian naval forces, he immigrated to the United States in 1976, where he worked as a stress engineer at nuclear power plants in Texas, Michigan, and Connecticut. He settled in Fort Worth in 1986.
