Prasidh Krishna replaces Hardik Pandya in World Cup
Krishna has only made 19 appearances with the white ball for India
Pandya sustained an ankle injury last month and was ruled out of the World Cup / ICC
A month after all-rounder Hardik Pandya suffered a left ankle injury while bowling during India's World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune, the International Cricket Council announced that he was unable to recover and will have to pull out from the tournament.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has approved Prasidh Krishna as a replacement for Pandya in the India squad for the remainder of the tournament.
Krishna, an inexperienced fast bowler, has only made 19 appearances with the white ball for India. He was last seen playing for his country when he took the valuable wicket of David Warner in nine overs at a cost of 1/45 against Australia right before the World Cup.
With 33 international wickets under his belt, Krishna has previously shown potential, but he will have competition from Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj to make the Indian pace attack.
Upon the decision, Pandya took to social media to wish his teammates well as they look to win a third World Cup and a second domestic championship.
“Tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup. I'll be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special and I'm sure we'll make everyone proud. Love, always, HP,” Pandya wrote on X, formerly twitter.
