Seven Indian badminton players qualify for Paris Olympics

PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and the pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto are set to shine.

Seven Indian shuttlers, including prominent sportspersons like PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, and Lakshya Sen, have officially secured spots in this year's Paris Games based on their Olympic Games Qualification rankings.
PV Sindhu, a former world champion and a two-time Olympic medalist, had already solidified her qualification along with men’s singles contenders HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen prior to the official announcement on Apr.29.
In accordance with the criteria established by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the top 16 players in both men’s and women’s singles earn their tickets to the prestigious quadrennial event based on their Olympic Games Qualification rankings on the cut-off date. The cut-off date for this year’s games was set on Apr.29 by the BWF.
Sindhu, renowned for her historic silver at Rio 2016 followed by a bronze at Tokyo 2020, secured the 12th position in women’s singles rankings. Meanwhile, Prannoy and Sen achieved notable placements at ninth and 13th respectively in men’s singles, demonstrating their prowess on the global stage.
Additionally, the formidable men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched an impressive third place in the Olympic qualification cycle. In the women's doubles category, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto have also qualified for the Olympics, further enhancing India's medal prospects in badminton. They enter the Olympics as one of the most promising medal prospects for India in badminton, aiming to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.
The Indian badminton contingent's success in securing seven slots across four categories underscores the nation's growing prowess and talent in the sport. With the Paris Olympics scheduled to take place from July.26 to Aug.11, anticipation and support for these athletes are expected to rise as they prepare to represent India on the global stage.
