The Sikh community and Dr. Rajwant Singh, a prominent Sikh American and chairman of the Sikh Council on Religion and Education (SCORE), have endorsed Kamala Harris' presidential campaign, with Singh stating that Harris is "well-suited" for the position..
“We are pleased that President Joe Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris for President of the United States. She is well-suited to take the mantle of leadership of the Democratic Party and also lead this nation at this very critical juncture." Dr. Singh said in a statement.
According to Singh, who is also a senior advisor to the National Sikh Campaign and the founder and president of EcoSikh, an environmental organization based in Washington, the candidacy of Kamala Harris has energized both the grassroots and the American political elite. He went on to say that the Sikh community will be vocal in their support for Kamala Harris's presidential campaign, and that the moment has come to win the election.
"She has spoken against hate crimes against all minorities, including Sikhs and the Biden Harris Administration has also condemned the killing of the 6 Sikhs by a white supremacist in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, on the 10th anniversary of that tragedy." Singh said also highlighting Harris’ achievements in California as the attorney general and senator from that state
“We are very confident that she will quickly gather support from all quarters of the Democratic party as well among the independents. People who are tired of the discordant atmosphere from last 10 years will have a chance to change the direction of America,” he added.
Finally, Singh referred to President Joe Biden, who withdrew his re-election bid to assume the presidency, as a "national hero." “He has shown his utmost dedication in serving this nation in the last 5 decades. His last political act has shown his courageous and selfless leadership."
