Two powerful Democratic lawmakers on Thursday, in a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, asked for details surrounding the USD21 million aid given to voters turnout in India by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), asserting that this created a political firestorm in India and baselessly sowed distrust in the agency.

“Please explain the details surrounding the $21 million grant to India, including the dates of the grant, the contract information, the implementing partner, the proposed activities, and the dates of the activity. Please also provide any documentation, including the Congressional Notification number and date the CN was submitted,” wrote Congressman Gregory W. Meeks and Kamlager-Dove in a letter to Rubio.
