Diaspora protests for Kashmir victims outside Pak Consulate in Chicago

The protestors made it clear that there will be no more silence and no more complicity as justice for Kashmir terror victims is a moral imperative the world must embrace.

Hundreds of Indian Americans from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin gathered outside the Pakistan Consulate in Chicago on Apr. 28 to protest the brutal terrorist attack, which was perpetrated by Pakistani terrorists, on innocent tourists in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Apr. 22.

The protest, organized by the US-India Community Foundation and supported by over 25 leading community organizations, reflected deep anguish, outrage, and unwavering resolve to tackle counter terrorism head-on. The protestors carried banners and chanted slogans – “Hindu Lives Matter”, “Pakistan Stop Terrorism”, “Declare Pakistan a Terror State”, and “Join Hands to Fight Terrorism”. 

They made it clear that there will be no more silence and no more complicity as justice for Kashmir terror victims is a moral imperative the world must embrace. 

Dr Bharat Barai, Medical Director of the Cancer Institute, Methodist Hospitals, addressed the crowd, saying they stand united in grief and outrage. In a statement, the community leader said the demand the perpetrators be held accountable. “Justice must be served for the innocent victims and their grieving families.”

Dr Barai said the protest witnessed an outpouring of cross-community solidarity. “Members from various organizations standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Indian American community. Their support underscored a universal rejection of hatred and terrorism,” he added.

Amitabh Mittal, General Secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad America (VHPA), said terrorism has no place in a civilized world. “We are here to demand accountability not just for Pahalgam’s victims, but for decades of suffering endured by Hindus in Kashmir.”

Rakesh Malhotra, former President of the Federation of Indian Association in Chicago, said they will not be silent and will not allow human suffering and innocent killings. “We urge the United Nations and global leaders to recognize Pakistan’s continued support for terror and officially declare Pakistan a terrorist state.”

Hemant Patel, President of the Federation of Indian Association, said their message is loud and clear – the global community cannot continue to ignore Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terror. “Enough is enough.” Santosh Kumar, a community leader, highlighted that community is under attack and silence is complicity. “We refuse to be silent, we stand for every innocent life lost,” he said. Nirmala Reddy, a woman leader in Chicago, condemned Pakistan’s continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism and demanded immediate international action.

Nirav Patel, a member of the US-India Community Foundation, shared that they stand united across generations. He said this is a call for justice and the protection of basic human rights in Kashmir, and beyond.

Dr Ram Chakraborty, founder of the Chicago Kali Bari, asserted that terrorism affects everyone. “We take a stand not just for Hindus, but for all victims of violence and hatred. Justice is not optional – it is essential for peace.”

The protest also witnessed heartening support from Jewish, Nepali, Muslim and Christianity community members. It symbolized a united stand against hatred, extremism, and terror.
