Harvard Prof Ranjay Gulati to be honored with IILM Award in Delhi

He was ranked as one of the top 10 most cited scholars in Economics and Business over a decade by ISI-Incite.

IILM University and IILM Institute for Higher Education are set to recognize Professor Ranjay Gulati, who is a globally renowned academic and business thinker from Harvard Business school, with the 14th IILM Distinguished Global Thinker Award on Apr. 24. The ceremony will take place at 3 Lodhi Institutional Area in New Delhi, India.

Gulati is from India and holds a PhD from Harvard University and additional degrees from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, Washington State University, and St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi. He is the Paul R. Lawrence MBA Class of 1942 Professor of Business Administration and former Unit Head of the Organizational Behavior Unit at Harvard Business School.

According to his official portal, Gulati is an expert on leadership, strategy and organizational issue in firms. Gulati’s recent work explores leadership and strategic challenges for building high growth organizations in turbulent markets.

He is the recipient of the 2024 CK Prahalad Award for Scholarly Impact on Practice. It recognizes excellence in the application of theory and research in practice, and honors a scholar whose research generates learning from practice. Moreover, Gulati was ranked as one of the top 10 most cited scholars in Economics and Business over a decade by ISI-Incite. He has been listed by The Economist, Financial Times, and the Economist Intelligence Unit among the top business school scholars whose work is most relevant to management practice.

Gulati is also the author of “Deep Purpose: The Heart and Soul of High Performance Companies” published by Harper Collins in 2022. The book offers a compelling reassessment and defense of purpose as a management ethos. It documents the vast performance gains and social benefit that become possible when firms get purpose right.

After the 14th IILM Distinguished Global Thinker Award presentation, Gulati will deliver a keynote lecture titled Deep Purpose: The Heart and Soul of High Performance Organizations, drawing inspiration from his book. He is also the winner of the 2023 Axiom Business Book Award Bronze Medal in the Business Ethics category for the same.
