Jagmeet Singh, the leader of New Democratic Party (NDP) and a Khalistani supporter, has stepped down from the party’s top position after losing his Burnaby seat in Canada’s federal election on Apr. 28.
In a social media post on X, he said that it has been a disappointing night for New Democrats. “I am disappointed that we could not win more seats. But I am not disappointed in our movement, I am hopeful for our party.”
It's been the honour of my life to lead the NDP, and to represent the people of Burnaby Central.

Congratulations to Prime Minister Carney, and to all the other leaders on a hard-fought campaign.
I know this night is disappointing for New Democrats.
Singh told supporters, as per CTV News, that New Democrats built the country. “We have built the best of Canada, and we aren’t going anywhere.” He said choosing to commit one’s life to politics comes with some sacrifices. “But we choose this life because of the chance to change the country you love for the better. We may lose sometimes, and those losses hurt.”

Singh added that its tough. “But we are only defeated if we stop fighting, we’re only defeated when we believe those that tell us that we can never dream of a better Canada, a fairer Canada, a more compassionate Canada.”
He congratulated Prime Minister Mark Carney and the other leaders on a hard-fought campaign. Carney’s Liberal’s won the Canadian federal election, a fourth mandate for the party.
