All We Imagine As Light has been making waves on the global film circuit since 2024. The film premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in 2024 and marked a significant milestone as it became the first Indian film in over three decades to compete in the main competition for the Palme d'Or.
While it missed the top prize at Cannes, it was honored with the Grand Prix, the festival’s second-highest award—a historic achievement for Indian cinema.
The India-European co-produced film tells a story about two nurses living in Mumbai. It explores themes of urban isolation, female friendship, and quiet resilience.
Following its Cannes triumph, the film has traveled extensively on the international film festival circuit. It has screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), New York Film Festival (NYFF), Busan International Film Festival, and many more, earning accolades and praise for its nuanced storytelling and compelling performances.
All We Imagine As Light has also been recognized for its outstanding cinematography at the National Film Awards (India) and won the Best International Feature award at the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) Award. Other accolades include the Silver Hugo—Jury Prize and Best Original Screenplay at the Chicago International Film Festival.
Despite missing out on major awards at earlier events like the Venice Film Festival and BAFTA Awards, where it was longlisted but not shortlisted.
The film has garnered several nominations, such as the RTVE-Another Look Award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, and nominations for Non-English Film of the Year at the Dorian Awards and Best International Film in Non-English Language at the Vancouver Film Critics Circle.
It was also nominated for Best International Film at the Independent Spirit Awards, finished as a runner-up for Best Foreign Language Film at the Online Film & Television Association, and was nominated for Best Film at the VHS Awards.
