Dr Pooja Goswami Pavan, Minneapolis-based composer, vocalist, educator and scholar, has released a new single music video dedicated to the legendary Ustad Zakir Hussain.

Pavan has offered a loving and beautiful musical tribute to the memory and legacy of Ustad Zakir Hussain, with a brand-new musical composition riding on the immortal words of the Nirguni poet, Sant Kabir Das (Kabir).

The music video was released on Mar.9, on what would have been the Maestro Zakir Hussain’s 74th Birthday. The transcending musician remains an eternal guiding light. And that is the essence of these haunting verses of Kabir.

In an Instagram post on Mar.10, Pavan shared that she witnessed first hand, his (late Zakir Hussain) compassion and affection. “Each time I met him, it felt like being in the presence of the sun! His aura was such that I would freeze, unable to utter much. But all through these he would offer such loving advice telling me ‘find your own voice, Pooja.”

She added “I was looking forward to his next visit to the Twin Cities (MN) to present him my upcoming album of Songs of Kabir. But destiny had other designs. On his special day today, I'll just console myself and dedicate this Kabir song to his awe inspiring life and legacy.”

Pavan said the song speaks about the Guru, who is everything and everywhere, for eternity.
