Pratiksha Mishra, a biochemistry major at Western Kentucky University (WKU), has been awarded the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad in South Korea during summer of 2025. She is the daughter of Raju and Archana Mishra of Bowling Green.

Mishra is one of 19 WKU students selected in the highly competitive October 2024 application cycle, with WKU receiving more Gilman scholarships than any other college or university in Kentucky. The recipients received a combined total of $67,000, with an average award of $3,500.

All recipients worked with WKU’s Office of Scholar Development (OSD) and the Office of Study Abroad and Global Learning to prepare strong applications and select programs that matched their goals. WKU’s Gilman success rate this cycle was 39 percent, well above the national average of 25 percent.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the Gilman Scholarship supports study or internship opportunities abroad for Pell Grant recipients. Since 2001, it has helped over 41,000 students from diverse backgrounds gain international experience.

Applications are accepted twice a year, with the next deadline in October for programs from Winter 2025 through Fall 2026.
