Sikh community holds final prayer for Shashi Tuteja in Illinois

The Sikh Religious Society (Gurudwara) in Palatine, Illinois, held a final prayer ceremony (Antim Ardas) on April 3 in memory of Shashi Tuteja, who passed away on March 28.

The ceremony began with devotional singing (Kirtan) led by Anmol Singh and his group. A community meal (Langar) followed the prayers, in keeping with Sikh tradition.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gaurav Tuteja, son of Shashi Tuteja, reflected on the role of parents, noting, “We only realize their worth later in life.”

The gathering brought together friends, extended family, and community members. Those in attendance included Sunil Shah (founder and chairman, Federation of Indian Associations), Rita Shah, Vinita Gulabani, Neal Khot, Bhavesh Patel (Sahil), Jasbir Suga, Jasmeet Suga, Payal Shah, Bhavna Modi, and others.

Suresh Bodiwala, chairman and founder of Asian Media USA, described the loss as one that would be deeply felt by all who knew her. “Her warmth, unwavering faith in Waheguru, and boundless love left an indelible mark on our hearts,” he said.

Tuteja is survived by her husband, Devraj Tuteja, son Gaurav Tuteja, daughter and son-in-law, Neha and Saurabh Dawra; grandchildren, Vihan and Vidhan; and siblings, Rajkumar, Ashok, Prem, Sunita, and Neelam.
