Despite incremental steps forward, India's journey towards a truly equitable justice system remains fraught with significant obstacles, according to the 2025 India Justice Report (IJR) unveiled on April 15. The exhaustive study, the fourth of its kind, ranks states on their performance across the crucial pillars of police, judiciary, prisons, and legal aid, revealing a familiar pattern of southern states leading the way.
However, beneath this regional success lies a concerning national reality, marked by persistent shortcomings, most notably the glacial pace of progress in women's representation within senior police ranks and the enduring struggle to ensure timely and fair justice for all.
