Entrepreneur and politician Vivek Ramaswamy paid an emotional tribute to his wife, Apoorva Ramaswamy, highlighting her as the "true hero" of their Indian American family.
During a campaign event in Marion County, Ohio, as part of his bid for governor, Ramaswamy shared, "My path to the American dream went through a four-year college degree program. My parents came to this country with nothing, to Cincinnati, Ohio, 45 years ago. In a single generation, I went on to found a successful company, develop life-saving medicines for patients who needed them. I ended up marrying my wife Apoorva, who is the true hero of the family."

The evening took a heartfelt turn as several attendees spontaneously stood up to recount how Apoorva Ramaswamy,a laryngologist, had saved their lives or those of their family members. "I think maybe some of you know her in the audience," Ramaswamy said, visibly moved, as individuals shared personal experiences of being treated by her.
So proud of my wife Apoorva. When I mentioned her in Marion County tonight, one of her patients in the audience raised his hand & talked about how she saved him. And then another man in the back stood up and said the same. Then so did someone else whose family member Apoorva had… pic.twitter.com/r1g0RKMKjj

Apoorva specializes in treating voice and swallowing disorders, particularly in patients who have undergone cancer treatment. She also serves as assistant professor at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
Reflecting on the evening’s events, Ramaswamy later posted on X (formerly Twitter), "So proud of my wife Apoorva. When I mentioned her in Marion County tonight, one of her patients in the audience raised his hand and talked about how she saved him. And then another man in the back stood up and said the same. Then so did someone else whose family member Apoorva had treated. Very grateful for the true hero of our family."
Ramaswamy praised his wife’s dedication to her patients, noting that she could not attend the event because she was still performing surgeries. "She would be here right now were it not for the fact she's actually in the operating room finishing up her day," he said.
He emphasized that while both he and Apoorva achieved the American dream through higher education, Ohio should offer multiple paths to success. "We want Ohio to be the state where a path to the American dream is available to every son and daughter of Ohio who wants to be a welder or a mechanic or a carpenter or an electrician or a machine operator, to also live the American dream without having to go through that four-year college education," he said.
Vivek and Apoorva Ramaswamy’s relationship began during their respective studies—Vivek in law school and Apoorva in medical school. They married in 2015 and have two sons, Karthik and Arjun.
