Indian shooter Nancy Mandhotra has secured gold at the Asian Shooting Championships 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The 19-year-old won in the women's 10m air rifle event, setting a junior Asian record with a final score of 252.8.
She defeated Tamil Nadu’s Elavenil Valarivan, who finished with 252.7 points, claiming the silver medal. The bronze went to Yufan Shen from the People's Republic of China, who scored 231.4.
In the qualification round, Indian shooters dominated, securing five of the top six spots. The combined efforts secured the team gold in the 10m air rifle event, leaving behind Singapore, who claimed the silver medal and Iran, who claimed the bronze.
While Nancy's gold could guarantee her a spot in the individual Olympic events, India has already secured its full allocation of eight quotas.
At the same time, former world champion Rudrankksh Patil clinched the bronze medal in the men's 10m air rifle event with a final score of 228.7. In the women's 25m pistol, Esha Singh led the Indian contingent securing the third position.
