Aabaha Theatre Group performed at Colure 2024, the popular festival hosted by Chicago Natyo Goshthi (CNG), a nonprofit theater group in Chicago. They staged an adaptation of Anthony Shaffer’s Sleuth, titled The Game.

The performance, enjoyed by a full audience, received praise for its gripping story, strong performances, and excellent stagecraft.

Marking its third premiere at Colure, Aabaha has solidified its place in thought-provoking theater. In 2023, it impressed with Lost Inheritance by Manoj Mitra, and the year before with A Modern Story by Mainak Sengupta—both directed by Kallol Nandi. Aabaha’s consistency underscores its commitment to quality storytelling and its impact on Greater Chicago’s arts scene.

Set against the backdrop of a lavish yet eerie mansion, The Game invites viewers into a battle of wits between a crime writer and his wife’s lover. What begins as an innocent encounter quickly spirals into a suspenseful contest of manipulation, with layers of deceit and tension building to an unforgettable climax.

The production’s success owed much to Kallol Nandi and Shubhagato Bhattacharjee’s intense performances. Pranjal Karmakar’s minimalist set, combined with striking lighting and sound, deepened the drama’s tension. The open-ended conclusion sparked lively audience discussions.

“This wasn’t just a play—it was an experience that kept us on the edge of our seats and left us reflecting long after the curtain fell,” said one attendee.

Speaking about the production, director, and playwright Shubhagato Bhattacharjee shared his inspiration: “Our aim was to explore timeless themes like ego, greed, and revenge while crafting a thriller that kept the audience guessing. The response has been both humbling and deeply gratifying.”
