AAPI president outlines policy priorities in meeting with Deputy Consul General of India in New York

Kathula highlighted the upcoming Global Health Summit, scheduled to take place in New Delhi from Oct. 18-20.

President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) Dr. Satheesh Kathula met with Varun Jeph, Deputy Consul General of India in New York, on Aug. 18 to discuss potential collaborative initiatives between AAPI and the Government of India.

Kathula, along with dozens of physicians of Indian origin who traveled from across the United States, participated in the 78th India's Independence Day celebrations and the India Day Parade in New York City. 

“Deputy Consul General Hon. Varun Jeph and AAPI President Dr. Satheesh Kathula met in New York today. Had constructive discussions on the role of Indian physicians in the US in strengthening Indo-US healthcare collaborations and empowering the vibrant Diaspora community. Wished him the best for his tenure as AAPI President,” the Indian Consulate in New York said in a post on X.
 



Dr. Kathula described the meeting as very productive. While elaborating on the discussions he had with Jeph, he said, “The discussions highlighted key projects that AAPI will be undertaking in India, including programs focused on the prevention of cancer and heart attacks, as well as widespread CPR training initiatives aimed at improving emergency response capabilities across the country.”

Dr. Kathula highlighted the upcoming Global Health Summit, scheduled to take place in New Delhi from Oct. 18-20. This summit aims to gather healthcare professionals and experts globally to exchange knowledge, explore innovative solutions, and enhance international health partnerships.

The AAPI president also noted that the Global Healthcare Summit, their flagship annual event, has significantly introduced new healthcare approaches for India's 1.4 billion people, both in crowded urban centers and remote rural areas. The 18th annual summit will build on previous initiatives and introduce several new programs.

He has held various roles within AAPI, including regional director and Board of Trustees member. Elected by AAPI members, he has served as the national treasurer, secretary, and vice president, and was the president-elect for the year 2023-24.
