Actor Govinda makes political comeback, joins Shiv Sena
The actor emerged as a ‘giant killer’ in 2004 Lok Sabha elections when he defeated BJP’s Ram Naik

Bollywood actor Govinda, renowned for his comedic prowess and iconic dance moves in the 1990s, reentered the political arena by joining the ruling Shiv Sena party in Mumbai.
The move marks the actor's comeback to politics after a hiatus of 14 years. He officially joined the party during a ceremony in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
In 2004, Govinda contested elections as a Congress candidate and achieved a significant victory by defeating BJP stalwart Ram Naik in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat, earning the title of a "giant killer."
Govinda, whose acting career began in the 1980s and whose films were known for their family-friendly entertainment, shared that after his initial foray into politics from 2004 to 2009, he never envisioned returning to the same arena.
"I am back (in politics) after a 14-year-long 'vanvas' (exile)," he remarked.
Re-entering politics under a different banner amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, the veteran actor, whose full name is Govinda Ahuja, expressed his willingness to contribute to the art and culture sector if given the opportunity. He also remarked on the positive changes he observed in Mumbai's beauty and development under Chief Minister Shinde's leadership.
Eknath Shinde clarified that no conditions were set regarding whether the actor would be fielded from the Mumbai North-West Lok Sabha seat. "He just wants to work for the film industry," he said, adding Govinda hasn't joined the party for an election ticket.
Shinde stated that the Shiv Sena, leading the 'Mahayuti' coalition in the state government, would soon announce its list of Lok Sabha candidates.
