Duke University School of Medicine has appointedpediatrics professor Aditee Narayan as vice dean for education.
With nearly two decades of experience in medical education and a record of innovation in curriculum development, Narayan will oversee health professions education, including career enhancement programs and master’s degrees, while managing activities from admissions to curriculum delivery in her new role. She will also foster collaboration and promote equity and diversity across all programs.
At Duke, Narayan has been integral to the institution’s educational advancements. As associate dean for curricular affairs, she led the recent LCME accreditation review and spearheaded the creation of the Patient FIRST curriculum. This innovative program integrates biomedical sciences with clinical training and emphasizes social and structural drivers of health, setting a new standard in medical education.
“Narayan's passion for interdisciplinary, patient-centered health care education, her expertise in change management, her commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and her pioneering use of artificial intelligence in education will be invaluable as we continue to be trailblazers of medical education,” said Mary E. Klotman, executive vice president for health affairs for Duke University and dean of the School of Medicine.
“Her collaborative approach to her work will foster deeper partnerships across Duke's health education programs and beyond,” Klotman added.
Narayan earned her MD from Duke in 2000 and her MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999. She completed her residency and fellowship at Duke before joining the faculty in 2006.
She has held leadership roles in national organizations, earning accolades including the Robert S. Holm Award in 2016 and the Duke Master Clinician/Teacher Award in 2019.
