AI leader Howso appoints Gaurav Rao as CEO
- Rao will play a pivotal role in steering Howso through a phase of rapid growth

Howso, a key player in explainable AI technology, has appointed Gaurav Rao as its chief executive officer. Rao, a seasoned technology executive with over 20 years of expertise in scalable data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence solutions, will play a pivotal role in steering Howso through a phase of rapid growth.

Howso Engine is an open-source AI platform designed for the creation of AI applications and machine learning models that prioritize trust, auditability, and explainability. Distinguishing itself from neural network-based approaches, Howso products leverage instance-based learning (IBL). This approach ensures that every prediction, label, and generative output is precisely attributed to the underlying data used, effectively addressing concerns related to bias, hallucinations, and misinformation. The innovative AI platform provided by Howso is already being utilized by leading global entities in finance, healthcare, and government sectors that prioritize the implementation of trustworthy AI solutions.
"We co-founded Howso in 2017 concerned about the rapid proliferation of black box AI, with conviction that we could solve the same problems using trustworthy techniques. We proved it's possible, and we've made incredible progress. Now, we're scaling into a large enterprise software company," said Michael Capps, Howso's co-founder and former CEO.

Rao previously served as the executive vice president and general manager of AI at AtScale, a notable business intelligence and data science company. Before this, he played a key role in leading product development at the deep learning startup Neural Magic. Rao's professional background also includes holding various executive positions at IBM, covering areas such as engineering, product management, and sales.
