Ajit Lalvani reappointed trustee of Science Museum Group

Professor Ajit Lalvani, chair of Infectious Diseases and director of the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Respiratory Infections at Imperial College London, has been reappointed as a trustee of the Science Museum Group in UK by the Secretary of State. The Group is devoted to the history and contemporary practice of science, medicine, technology, industry, and media.
As a governor of the Science Museum Group, Lalvani actively promotes public engagement with science and the exploration of scientific discovery. His dedication extends to addressing the growing health disparities by focusing on the social determinants of health.
Additionally , Lalvani champions innovative, community-based approaches in this endeavour, drawing inspiration from initiatives like those established by The Bromley by Bow Centre in Tower Hamlets, where he holds the position of chair of the Board of Trustees.
Renowned for his work in developing and implementing scientific breakthroughs to safeguard the nation's health from severe respiratory infections such as flu, tuberculosis (TB), and COVID-19, Lalvani is dedicated to translating his research findings into innovative and pragmatic solutions to enhance patient care and public health.
His contributions include the development of new technologies and policies that have significantly reduced the TB burden in England. With an impressive track record, he has secured £40 million in research funding and authored 200 research papers.
Lalvani is committed to addressing health inequalities by targeting the social determinants of health and empowering individuals to enhance their well-being and resilience, including through the integration of the arts. He serves on the Board of the English National Opera (ENO) and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the College of Medicine.
Lalvani also contributes to the development of India's medical research ecosystem by chairing the Strategic Advisory Board of The India Alliance, which is the leading medical research funding organization in India
