The President of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, has expressed grave concern over the indefinite suspension of visa services for Canadians traveling to India. The move has left thousands of Punjabis, especially those of Indian origin and students in Canada, in a state of uncertainty and anxiety.
In a video message posted on X, Badal said that the visa suspension has caused immense inconvenience to the Punjabi community, “especially to members of the most patriotic community of the Sikhs who have not only made unparalleled sacrifices for the freedom of the country but also for fighting off foreign aggression in borders.”
“I have been flooded with calls and messages from Punjabis in Canada and their families and relatives back home”, all seeking the intervention of the Akali Dal to ensure a safe and smooth return to their homeland, the president said.
In this regard, Badal said that the Shiromani Akali Dal has urgently called upon the governments of India and Canada to find a swift and amicable solution to the matter and reinstate visa services at the earliest.
He emphasized that resolving the visa facility hurdles is paramount to ensuring the well-being and security of Punjabis in Canada and maintaining the strong cultural and familial ties between the two nations.
The President of Akali Dal concluded by appealing to both governments to prioritize the interests and aspirations of the Punjabi community and bring an end to the uncertainty.
