Bollywood Actor Akshay Kumar has lent his voice to a devotional song dedicated to Lord Shiva, also known as Shiv, Shiv Shambhu, and Mahakal, among other names.
The song, titled ‘Shambhu’, recently premiered on Times Music’s YouTube channel. Aside from singing, Kumar also features in the music video of the song, sporting a look modeled after the Lord.
Kumar is seen in long dreadlocks in a top bun, along with a rudraksha necklace, and three parallel lines of vibhuti (ash) on his forehead called the Tripund. He is dressed in a flowy grey dhoti and a matching shawl covering the upper body. The outfits complement the mystique of the music video, directed by veteran choreographer Ganesh Acharya.
Lord Shiva is honored for both his rage and gentle form. Kumar is seen channeling both forms in the video. The actor's vocals were supported by singers Sudhir Yaduvanshi and Vikram Montrose and the lyrics were penned by Abhinav Shekhar.
Kumar promoted the song across his social media platforms, including X. “Our divine tribute, #Shambhu, is here for all to experience!” he posted.

The video has garnered more than 600,000 views and 820 comments. While he received appreciation for the song from several quarters, some social media users called him out for his past comments on worship practices.
As per Hindu scriptures, milk holds prominence in the puja (worship) of Lord Shiva, especially on Mahashivratri. In an interaction with Bollywood news outlet SpotboyE, Kumar had raised questions regarding the practice saying that “whole milk goes out as waste” and it could be used to feed the needy instead.
Despite the criticism, the song is trending at #9 in the music section on YouTube.
