American Center Chennai, a longstanding presence in the city’s cultural and literary scene, has set up a pavilion at the 47th Chennai Book Fair at the YMCA.

This year's theme for the American Center Pavilion is "In Your Own Words” to celebrate freedom of speech and expression as tools for empowerment. The book fair is open until January 21.

The Pavilion will host an interactive literary social on the legacy of Maya Angelou's work, facilitated by professors of English and Tamil Literature. In addition, it will showcase education and exchange opportunities in the US, providing resources and exclusive programming for patrons such as students, experts, researchers, and faculty. Members of the American Center can enjoy personalized amenities, such as exclusive access to eLibraryUSA, along with a library, housing over 15,000 books and extensive multimedia e-resources.

US Consul General Chennai, Christopher Hodges, inaugurated the American Center Pavilion at the fair last week. “The American Center’s presence at the book fair explores the way literature and information of all kinds can encourage new ideas, innovation, and creativity,” Hodges said.

“We support the next generation of Indian and American changemakers to question assumptions, think critically, and harness their own unique perspective to shape the world around them. Under the theme ‘In Your Own Words,’ our booth features leaders and artists who have been pioneers in this journey.”

This year’s Chennai Book Fair program includes various activities, including an exhibition on American Cartoonist Etta Hulme curated by American Fulbright Nehru alumna Dr. Ritu Khanduri, a slam poetry competition for college students, dedicated sessions on higher education in the US, educational storytelling workshops for children, and exchange program consultations.
