American India Foundation raises $4.2M for empowering Indian women

The funds will continue to support AIF's mission to empower women and girls rural India to live healthy, dignified, and fulfilling lives.

The American India Foundation (AIF) recently raised over US $4.2 million during its annual New York Gala at Cipriani Wall Street.

The funds will be used for AIF’s programs that help women secure jobs, attain financial literacy, stay healthy through pregnancy and motherhood, or embark on careers in STEM, AIF partners with the government at the central, state, and local levels to implement these health, education, and livelihood programs.

The gala, emceed by the Indian American comedian Zarna Garg, honored two distinguished figures, Michael Miebach, CEO of Mastercard, and Falguni Nayar, founder and CEO of Nykaa, an Indian beauty and wellness brand.

Appreciating their excellence, AIF CEO Nishant Pandey said, "Michael and Falguni are true exemplars of inspirational, passionate leaders who advance AIF's mission to drive sustainable, social and economic change. We are ever grateful for their partnership and to the generosity of all our supporters, corporate and government partners, donors, and friends, thanks to whom, AIF has reached 18.88 million lives across 35 states and union territories of India.”

Speaking on the occasion, Michael Miebach highlighted the fruitful collaboration between AIF and Mastercard, noting its positive impact on over 220,000 Indian students through STEM education programs. "Our goal is to extend Girls4Tech to 500,000 girls across India by 2027, translating ideas into concrete actions," Miebach said.

Falguni Nayar announced a new three-year partnership between AIF and Nykaa aimed at supporting girls in STEM education. "With India's female literacy rate significantly trailing behind that of males, this collaboration seeks to provide girls with the resources to pursue their passions and dreams," Nayar explained.

The event featured compelling videos and speeches showcasing AIF's transformative work. The 2024 New York Gala, AIF's most successful to date, was supported by major sponsors such as Goldman Sachs Gives, Mastercard, and Salesforce.
