American India Foundation secures Akamai Foundation's grant

American India Foundation (AIF), a non-profit that aims to bring social change in India, has been named among the Akamai Foundation 2023 global STEM education grant recipients under the early learner K-12 grant program.
Akamai Foundation is a charitable arm of Akamai Technologies Inc., a cloud company headquartered at Cambridge, Massachusetts. It runs two grant programs: early learner (K-12) STEM grants and 'empower' grants.
The STEM grants aim to encourage the next generation of technology innovators by supporting STEM education, with a focus on the pursuit of excellence in mathematics, and diversifying the technology ecosystem.
AIF, founded in 2001 by a group of Indian Americans in response to the Gujrat earthquake in January same year, is committed to improving the lives of India’s underprivileged — special focus on women, children, and youth —through high impact interventions in education, livelihoods, and public health.
Earlier this year, AIF inaugurated India's first STEM Innovation and Learning Center (SILC) at a Government Higher Secondary School, in Chennai. The centre was part of AIF’s Digital Equalizer, education program that bridges the educational and digital divide in India and prepares students, especially young girls, for a career and life.
Consisting of a technology and innovation corner, the centre will expose the children to subjects such as robotics, AI, Space technology, and nurture their curiosity in advanced STEM courses. Additionally it will also train the teachers to conduct techno-pedagogy-enabled classes for their students as well as receive training on the Digital Equalizer Way of Teaching (DEWoT.)
