American Punjabi Society hosts 5K cancer awareness walk at Eisenhower Park
The event marked a significant community effort to promote health education and cancer prevention.

The American Punjabi Society (APS), a non profit organisation that serves the Punjabi community, in collaboration with blood cancer specialists and the APS Women’s Council, hosted a 5K Cancer Awareness Walk at Eisenhower Park on Oct. 13, 2024.
The event drew over 300 participants, including community members, health professionals, and local leaders, all coming together to raise cancer awareness, promote fitness, and strengthen community ties.
The walk was led by prominent figures in blood cancer care, including blood cancer specialists chief medical officer Gurmohan Syali, along with Dr. Tarun Wasil and Dr. Jagmohan Kalra.
Notable attendees included cancer advocates Dr. Avtar Singh Tinna and Satnam Singh Parhar, as well as representatives from the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI).
Their presence emphasized the crucial role of community engagement in raising awareness about cancer prevention and treatment.
Participants enjoyed a variety of activities, including raffle prizes donated by local businesses and a breakfast prepared on-site by Mint restaurant. Health and wellness vendors offered valuable services, such as organ donor awareness led by Dunesh Kaur and blood donation information from Dr. Tarun Wasil.
