The American Punjabi Society (APS) Women’s Forum, in partnership with New York cancer and blood specialists and the New York Blood Center, organized a blood donation camp at the Pearl Banquet Hall in Hicksville, New York, on Aug.25.
The event, led by Navneet Sondhi of the APS Women’s Forum and Dr. Tarun Wasil, haematologist-oncologist with New York cancer and blood specialists, saw an overwhelming response from the community and exceeded expectations with 47 successful donations.
The event, which was originally scheduled to take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, was extended until 2:00 PM by the organizers as a result of the substantial attendance. Some donors were unable to participate as a result of time constraints, despite the extension, organizers said.
Wasil, who played a key role in the camp’s success, emphasized the importance of community involvement in healthcare initiatives. “Blood donation is a critical need, and today’s turnout will make a significant difference in many lives,” he stated.
Navneet Sondhi expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “The incredible turnout is a testament to our community’s generosity and dedication to helping others.”
APS president Gary S. Sikka also thanked Wasil and Sondhi for their leadership and extended his appreciation to all supporting organizations, including The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin – Queens and Long Island (AAPI-QLI), India Association of Long Island (IALI), Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA), Vaisakhi 5K Run, New York Telangana Telugu Association (NYTTA), Indo American Chamber of Commerce NY, and the Long Island Indo American Lions Club.
