Americans4Hindus host first political empowerment event in Illinois

The inaugural Political Empowerment meeting aimed to boost Hindu community’s political influence.

The Illinois chapter of Americans4Hindus (A4H) hosted its inaugural Political Empowerment meeting in an effort to encourage the community to increase its political representation at all levels of government.

The event held at the National India Hub center located in Schumburg, Illinois was attended by over 50 people including community leaders. Members from A4H’s Michigan chapter also attended the meeting along with film star Jo Sharma.  

Following the prayers, an inaugural address was delivered by Illinois chapter president Amar Upadhyay. In his speech, Upadhyay welcomed attendees and elaborated on A4H’s mission to increase the community’s influence in American political groups at Federal, state, and local levels.

In his keynote address, A4H founder and chairman Dr. Romesh Japra explained that increasing the community’s political influence is a way to tackle various issues faced by the Hindu community.  He emphasized the importance of voting as well as fundraising saying “politicians need votes and notes” to create maximum impact.

Moreover, Japra underscored the need to create unity among Hindus, Jewish, Buddhist, Sikhs, and Jains to create impact on a larger scale.

A4H’s chief advisor from Maryland, Dr. Raman Sood spoke on the importance of strengthening the organization financially and through the involvement of more community members. He explained the different types of membership and appealed members to take on leadership roles.

Michigan Congressman Shri Thanedar who addressed the gathering virtually, extended his office’s support to the Hindu community and condemned the recent vandalization of the BAPS Chino Hills temple.

Various community leaders like Krishna Bansal, Anil Barot, Dr. Manish Brahmbhatt, Avatans Kumar, Hemant Patel, Dr. Rashmi Patel, Maunal Talati, Joy Shah, Yogesh Patel, Dr. Rashmi Patel, Mukesh Patel, and Vandna Jhingan expressed their support to A4H during the event.

Lastly, Harish Kolasani, founder and chairman of National India Hub also extended his support to A4H and stated that the Center, which hosts multiple community activities, will be available to host A4H activities.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Manish Brahmbhatt.
