Mathematician and educator Anand Kumar announced his intention to launch an online educational platform for underprivileged children.
In his speech at the 2024 Kellogg India Business Conference on the theme "Reimagining India: Shaping the Global Economic Landscape,” Kumar, said the platform will be an extension of his Super 30 initiative.
Launched in Bihar in 2002, the initiative helps 30 kids from economically weaker sections prepare for entrance into India's most prestigious institution, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The initiative was nationally launched in 2022.
“Time has come to embrace the available technology to reach out to more and more students. Super 30 made me grow aspirations of the poor to change their lives and many of the students who passed out did bring about a generational shift due to the power of education,” Kumar said.
“The world is full of talented people. Even in the present scenario there are so many children hidden from the eyes of the world due to poverty. They have ability to become Newton and Ramanujan but perhaps their talent gets lost due to lack of opportunity. My online initiative is aimed at giving them the platform to excel,” he added.
Maintaining that the disruption caused by life- changing Covid pandemic taught him that technology can be leveraged even to reach students from the most underprivileged areas. “The poorest also deserve quality education. Now the time has come and technology is also there to connect with the poor irrespective of region,” he asserted.
