Anant Nambiar vies for Westchester County legislature seat

If elected, he would become the first Indian American or South Asian to hold the position.

Mamaroneck Town Councilman Anant Nambiar has announced his candidacy for the District 7 seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators.

Earlier this month, the Rye City Democratic Committee unanimously endorsed Nambiar to replace outgoing legislator Catherine Parker.

Nambiar, 55, said he was “flattered” by the support and plans to spend the coming months engaging with community leaders across District 7, which includes Rye, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, and parts of New Rochelle and Harrison.

With no Republican challenger announced and his Democratic opponents, Mamaroneck politico Emmanuel Rawlings and first-time candidate Andrew Regenstreich, unlikely to primary him, Nambiar enters the race with strong backing.

Nambiar has served on the Mamaroneck Town Council and the Mamaroneck School Board, where he advocated for Indian American and South Asian communities, including efforts to establish Diwali as a school holiday in Westchester.

His campaign focuses on addressing key issues such as flooding, housing affordability, and fiscal responsibility. With over 25 years of experience at American Express, Mastercard, and Synchrony Financial, he emphasizes his financial expertise in managing the county’s $2.5 billion budget.

He also pledges to address priorities identified in a 2022 study on Asian Americans in Westchester, including mental health services and anti-discrimination efforts. Committed to transparency, he promises regular community engagement through meetings and multilingual newsletters.

A primary, if necessary, will be held on June 24. The general election is set for November 4, 2025.
