Ankur Vaidya’s Transformative Leadership Elevates Indian-American Community to New Heights
Ankur Vaidya serves as the Chairman of the Federation of Indian Associations for eight states: NY, NJ, CT, MA, VT, RI, NH, and ME. This organization, established in 1970, is one of the oldest and largest non-profit umbrella IndianAmerican organizations in the USA. Representing over one million vibrant Asian-Indians, FIA receives significant grassroots support.
Ankur’s volunteer journey began in 2008 as a transportation volunteer, and over 15 years, his efforts have greatly expanded the non-profit’s influence. His contributions led to his election as the President of FIA in 2013 and 2014. During his presidency, he focused on community stability and expansion, resulting in numerous domestic and international awards. Under his guidance, FIA received accolades such as the Pravasi Bharatiya Sanmaan in 2021 and the Congressional Record honor in May 2022 at Capitol Hill.
Notably, FIA coordinated the largest COVID cargo shipment by a community non-profit, sending over $55 million worth of medical supplies to India during the 2nd COVID wave. Each year, FIA organizes more than 20 engaging events, including the iconic India Day Parade in Manhattan, NYC.
This annual celebration, held for 41 years, set Guinness World Records for the most different flags flown and the most damrus played in unison. FIA’s initiatives extend to an annual children’s dance competition, International Women’s Day, and the Diwali Soup Kitchen, which has provided over 50,000 meals. Beyond FIA, Ankur co-founded the South Asian American Coalition (SACO) and supports various community organizations.
He serves on Senator Cory Booker’s National Finance Committee, featured in the documentary ‘Street Fight’. Ankur’s philanthropic work extends to notable Bollywood foundations and contributions to the hospitality and real estate sectors. Ankur resides in East Brunswick with his parents, wife Karishma, and two children. As a devout Hindu, he frequents the temple with his family, enjoys football with his brother Sunny, indulges in golf, and nurtures his amateur gardening skills.
