Ashok Baddi explains the shift from Democrat to Trump supporter
Detroit’s Ashok Baddi believes that Hindu Americans view Trump as supportive of the community and with him in power, ties between India and America could strengthen.

In a recent conversation with New India Abroad, Ashok Baddi, a Detroit-based Indian American community leader with deep roots in nonprofit leadership and operations management, shared his evolving political views. Baddi, who previously aligned with the Democratic Party, now expresses support for Donald Trump.
He highlighted several reasons for his new stance, including concerns over voter integrity in recent elections and a belief that a strong relationship between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would benefit both nations.
"Hindu Americans feel that Trump is more favorable toward our community. If he returns to power, he and Modiji can work together to build a more cordial, strategic relationship between India and America," Baddi explained. "It’s vital for the world. The oldest democracy and the largest democracy share common values, and this alliance could strengthen democratic ideals globally."
Crucially, Baddi believes Trump’s foreign policy would foster a deeper bond with India, a priority he considers essential for global stability.
Referring to the last election, he pointed out: "Last time, the elections were some of the most chaotic we've seen in modern times." There were allegations of dead people voting and other irregularities. One guy even joked on television, ‘You didn't campaign in the graveyard.’ It was a mess," Baddi said, referencing widespread concerns in conservative circles over election integrity.
