Bala Devi Chandrashekar to perform at India House

Renowned Indian-origin Bharatanatyam dancer Bala Devi Chandrashekar will perform at India House in Paris on Aug 7, as part of the cultural celebrations at the Olympics.
The “Bharatanatyam – A Timeless Tradition” event is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (local time), and will feature an interactive exploration of Bharatanatyam, concluding with a performance of a semi-classical piece.
Chandrashekar is celebrated for her unique scholarly approach to Bharatanatyam, integrating insights from ancient texts with modern interpretations. Her work, recognized globally, has taken her to over 35 countries where she has performed in more than 300 shows.
Among her many accolades are the Kalaimamani award from the Tamil Nadu government and the "Natya Choodamani" from the Andhra Pradesh government.
As the Artistic Director of the Shree Padma Nrityam Academy of Performing Arts in Princeton, New Jersey, Bala Devi has dedicated her career to raising awareness of South Asian arts and culture. Her productions, including critically acclaimed works such as "Brihadeeswara: Form to Formless" and "Karna: Destiny’s Child," are known for their thematic depth and artistic excellence.
Her performance at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris during the World Heritage Week celebrations in 2018 was a notable highlight, showcasing the Bharatanatyam form inspired by the Thanjavur Big Temple.
The India house initiative is a joint effort between the Reliance Foundation and the Indian Olympic Association, which seeks to showcase Indian culture and accomplishments during the Paris Olympics. India House is set to welcome welcome visitors from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. local time till August 11, with tickets priced at approximately $5.50 USD.
