BCCI announces IPL 2024 schedule, matches contingent upon election dates

The eagerly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 schedule has been revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The schedule for the first 15 days of the competition in 2024, which is scheduled to kick start from March 22, was only made public. Once the dates for the Lok Sabha Elections are confirmed, the dates for the remaining matches will be revealed.
The 17th season of the Indian Premier League is expected to be bigger and better than the previous one. It will begin with a match between former captains of India, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. The Royal Challengers Bangalore will play the defending champion Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.
Hardik Pandya, the recently appointed Mumbai Indians captain, will face a familiar rival when his former team Gujarat Titans welcome the five-time winners in their season opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Between March 22 and April 7, a total of 21 matches are scheduled across 10 cities, ensuring each team participates in a minimum of three matches and a maximum of five during this period, the BCCI stated.
Meanwhile, another major talking point in the schedule announced on Thursday was that the Delhi Capitals' first two home games would be held in Visakhapatnam after the DDCA requested more time to prepare a new surface for the league after staging 11 WPL games in a row, including the final on March 17.
The main obstacle to the IPL 2024 was the likelihood of it conflicting with the Lok Sabha elections. It has previously happened twice, resulting in disorganized decision-making. In contrast to the 2009 edition, which was held wholly in South Africa, the 2014 IPL was split into two half, one held in the United Arab Emirates and the other back in India.
The two events did not coincide in 2019, therefore all of the IPL's games, which began on March 23, took place in India. Although there were some rumors this year as well, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal made it very clear that the competition won't be relocated overseas. However, a final decision is still pending.
